As stated it is at least a 2000

Why do you want a 6 year old bike so badly?

I like specialized as much as the next man.

The fork and rear chock is from a different era.

The design is fine.

The aluminum frame I am sure has taken its abuse depite the fact the the owner only rode it ''to church on sundays.''

Buy it if you must, but don't expect it to handle anything crazy like jumps and drops. It is a XC bike.

If in fact it has really never been ridden, and the parts are all in great shape, you could have some nice riding on it.

Just expect to be breaking parts and spending a lot more than the bike is worth to replace them.

Just my 2 cents. I wouldn't buy it. If you must, make him/her a lowball offer.

he already has a hardtail as he explained in another thread he started about the same bike.
