Bikes: Too many 80s roadbikes!

Most sidewalks in New York are actually owned by the buildings they're alongside, with a right to pass "revocable at will" - which is mostly only invoked so that buildings can close sidewalks for contruction and whatnot. You occasionally see signs to that effect, or little brass plaques embedded in the sidewalk... so even if you're legally parked by city law, the building may have the right to remove your bike.
