And that small-town mindset you speak of must be compared / contrasted against the big-city mindset which, to a lot of us out here in the "T" reeks of condescension, arrogance and megalomania.
Really? How many others caught that night were publicly shamed and had their careers as impacted as Herman? Even as small minded and ignorant as Sarasota could be (and you're welcome to take that as patronizing), I doubt that it was anything more than a summary offense, so I also question exactly how he got favorable legal treatment when I'm sure you don't know what happened to any of the other patrons in comparison to him.
You're missing the point - it's offensive that those folks had nothing better to do than harass/arrest ANYONE that night and I find it galling that Pee Wee's offense is somehow more shaming than spousal abuse, drunk driving, etc. How many celebrities have done things that hurt others with no impact on their careers? Pee Wee is somehow far worse...why? We as a society have some pretty weird values sometimes.
I'm not getting into a rural-urban culture war other than to say that after having lived in both, I have consistently found small towns to be far more corrupt and far less tolerant of any kind of diversity of thought or class. My block would accept you far more readily than your block would likely accept me.
