Steel is perfectly fine. Some even claim it's real. A steel frame is not likely to be any stronger than an Al frame though. If it appeals to you aesthetically, and you don't mind the extra weight go for it, but at that price point it offers no real life advantage over an Al frame.

I've been checking craigslist and I have absolutely no idea if I'm getting screwed or not. This is way tougher than I anticipated. i've been searching continuously for the past three weeks and I'm becoming thoroughly exhausted and disenchanted with this "quest". I had no idea biking had so many layers involved.
