Sounds like your bike has track/horizontal slots that open rearward. If that is the case the entire trailer load is working against the QR, which is going to fail. I wouldn't pull a trailer with that type of arrangement. You could try replacing the QR with a long bolt that you could really crank down, but I think you'll still have an issue.
