Hi Bob- I don't think I'm following you. The attachment system is like this:






I've had sets where the spring broke- I've used elastic bungees- it works best to tie it to the strap grommets and hook the bungee onto the pannier hook. That way you have double the elastic pulling the hooks onto the rack. But the spring seems to have more tension.
