It's this small mountain that sticks way up right in the middle of some pretty flat
territory, so the climatic and vegetative variations are very interesting. The caves are
very impressive ones, if you've not been inside. I'd go.
It's a mistake to try to attempt too much, because the natural tendency is to rush
to make mileage, when what you really want to do is meander along and really experience
the places that you encounter. Some of my greatest trips along US 50 were just stoner
wanderings, with an eventual return date, but no fixed agenda.
I like to find a lot of places that look interesting ahead of time, and just hit the ones that
seem to present themselves as opportunities according to when you know you need to
stop for the day. Heck, you can spend a week or two just along the eastern border of the Sierra.
Be kind to yourself. Have an adventure. Take some pictures, if you care to. You have just
