For the dyed in the wool fully kitted roadies, they need to consider this. A bike equipted with disc brakes can have a lighter, stronger more aero rim. In a race at the finish line the rider of a disc brake equipted bike will be able to accelerate faster because of the lighter rims, and win the race. That right there is reason enought to go to disc brakes.
Except that the hubs, frame, and fork all have to be heavier than with rim brakes. We already know how much heavier because we can compare a current rim brake bike to a disc brake bike. I'd like to see these lighter rims though. That's a claim I've heard several times, and yet I've never seen any lighter disc-specific rims.
