I hope you didn't interpret my comment that way. Just because I don't like the way they look doesn't mean I wouldn't use them if there were a compelling reason to do so. Heck, I strongly prefer the looks of a traditional horizontal top tube, but I ride (and love to ride) my sloping top tube Felt Z bike because it fits me so well and works so well for my purpose.
Disliking the aesthetics of a piece of equipment is a valid way to choose. But assuming that because someone has aesthetic opinions means that they make their decision entirely or even "mainly" on that basis is not valid. Aesthetics might cause one to need more or less of a functional reason to choose a feature, but doesn't mean it trumps functionality.
Me? I'm waiting for a reason to embrace disk brakes on a road bike, given my recreational road bike usage pattern. It's not there.
I am not waiting for a reason to use them on a mountain bike, cross bike or all weather commuter because there's good enough reasons (for me) already, and it doesn't matter about aesthetics.
