I take the opposite approach, and have bikes that I don't have to check often (or at all). Tire pressure is checked as needed according the the specific tires, either daily or as much as weekly, but I can tell anyway the moment i get on the bike. Brakes are checked by a simple brake lever squeeze in the first 20 feet of rolling, but otherwise, I trust the bike to be right and stay right for thousands of miles.
