If it is Reynolds 531 or 501 it will be stamped into the tubes one place or another (at least it is on my 88 Peugeot team pro)
Did you ever consider that your frame could be a Cinelli frame? They do make very nice steel frames. Yes it is probably brass used to help join the lugs. And (to the best of my knowledge) Cinelli only uses Columbus tubes.
