Oh, yeah, the S3X is fine. Make sure you figure out how to find the neutral (disengaged) position so you can find it when you want it and, more importantly, never find it by accident. Finding the neutral position by accident, that's how accidents happen.
If you decide you don't like riding it as a fixed gear, you can put a freewheel on it.
