Inflating the tube enough to fill it without stretching (like a limp sausage (wash your mind out folks) makes it far easier to stuff it deeper into the tire where you're less likely to pinch it.

You might later let some air out as you come the the last section when mounting a tight tire, but this wont matter because by now it should stay put.
