Yes always need to inflate slightly, I do it just to the point the tube starts to take shape. Hard question as it is more of an experience thing for me than anything scientific. But I'm sure someone here will know the exact pressure to inflate the tube to.
If I was you I'd spend a little time practicing until you get the hang of how much air to put in.
this has been pretty much my experience too.
i'd say, if you are anything like me, you will need to ruin 10-20 tubes before you get it right...
i'm expecting to ruin about five more.
although, i have to admit i was just THAT far (thumb and forefinger 1cm apart) from buying a Var Tire Tool the other day. then chickened out.
i mean, after all, it would have cost me 10 or 15 dollars!!!!
