although, i have to admit i was just THAT far (thumb and forefinger 1cm apart) from buying a Var Tire Tool the other day. then chickened out. i mean, after all, it would have cost me 10 or 15 dollars!!!!
It is never too late to buy a VAR. Best tire tool on the planet. As good as other bead jacks at home and small enough to carry with you. I wouldn't leave home without it. I don't care who knows I can't mount a folding tire by hand. It is not about macho, it is about riding.
