It doesn't have to be big. I picked a bouquet of wild flowers for my wife two weekends ago on my way home.
I echo this, it doesn't have to be anything expensive or crazy, just spontaneous and the fact that you thought of them goes a long way.
If you do want to spend a little money, I highly recommend a staycation or even a night in a fancy hotel with a nice dinner out away from home.
