By all objective measures the ride was good, I accomplished what I wanted to get done. But it was interesting to realize the qualitative differences between the bikes. The Trek got the job done, but more in the manner of a piece of exercise equipment. After 18 miles, I came to an intersection where I could turn right to go home or go straight to ride more. I turned right (the better training choice) and went home without a second thought.
I don't quite know how to express this and hopefully it won't sound weird. But the BMC is totally different. Everything about it seems completely right to me. It is somehow, I don't know, "inspiring?". It is always harder for me to stop riding it than to start. When I got to that intersection, if I had been on the BMC, I probably would have struggled a little more with the decision to turn home, succumbed, and ridden another 5 or 10 miles (which would have been ok training-wise too).
I'm not even sure what the point of this post is. I love my bike & I'm sure y'all do too. I guess I just never expected I would develop this level of attachment to a bike.

You're starting to sound like a cyclist that is getting into the distance game. When Brevet's were my focus, and looking ahead towards stuff like the Hoodoo 500, or Lotoja, or even the California doubles, that was my thought process. I've traded the fun of 6+ hour bike rides in for the jolt of a 45 minute crit. I'll be back, at some point.
No need for a point to your post. I'm pretty sure we all understand.
