the plastic ones fit normal street shoes better, but if you don't wear bulky shoes or boots it's not an issue. I run both on different bikes, and it's hard to get into the metal ones with bulky street shoes or boots on. with bike shoes I would prefer the metal clips, but then with bike shoes I prefer SPDs
