Thinking about getting to the next rest stop not only helps it seem manageable but also helps time go by a lot faster. It also helps you enjoy each stage and feel like you accomplished something along the ride.
Your statement is true, but 83 miles in a day with hills is a challenge that shouldn't be understated. Its a real test for one's legs and sitter that should be appropriately prepared for.
