A lot of outdoor people live in the area, that's for sure. One of the Ironman qualifiers is in Coeur d'Alene, and I've met many people out climbing at the various crags. Whitewater and skiing pretty much covers the rest of the seasons.
I'll be doing Ironman Coeur d'Alene next June, via a flight into Spokane
