When I started commuting I just was using my backpack. I hated getting sweaty under the backpack, and having the weight on my body.

So I started strapping my backpack to my rack. After a few bunches of times of the backpack falling off (and once I didn't notice it for a good long time)- I sourced some panniers.

I'm now the king of 30 year old Cannondale Panniers. Once you start rolling with panniers, you wonder how you lived without them.
