Personally, I think courses with lots of unrideable sections that require lots of running appeal mostly to people who haven't actually raced on such courses. It sounds "epic" and awesome to have to slog up hills and through brambles and mud with a bike on your shoulder, but the reality of it is that it's less fun than a true cyclocross course that allows you to ride most of it. Even famously run-heavy Flandrian CX courses are much, much more focused on riding than running, and they're better for it. Running is an indelible element of cyclocross and it will never go away, but when you get right down to it, it's a cycling discipline. And races where the riders spend most of their time running around are less fun to watch, as well.
