I know a lot of people swap cassettes for rides, but how about rings? Adjusting the FD is not a big deal and and seems like swapping rings would yield better results than swapping cassettes in many cases. Not that I do it myself, but it strikes me a logical approach to gearing.
I think the major limitation is that you can usually only get 1 gear change difference especially if you are running normal rings with their corresponding BCDs.
