I purposely avoided mentioning the Stein gages as they don't have enough length for each step IMO. But as a starting point they work well. I also avoided mentioning telescoping hole gages. My limited use of such didn't make me want one (and I'm a bit of a tool guy). A trial fit with a sizing seat post tells all. No wondering if the tube is ovalized, discovers burrs and lumps, disregards the binder top section of the seat tube having been opened up too far by a ham fisted guy, allows a trial tightening of the binder clamp to see if the post size REALLY will work.

One of the concerns i have with the (miss placed) focus on only the top/binder section of the ST is that the post REALLY has to be inserted into the ST past the lug/binder/stays and top tube intersection. How many of the readers here have seen first hand the results of a too little post insertion?

I've flogged this thread enough. Andy.
