You asked me what the difference between an Asian hub (like the Novatecs) and a CK hub was. That bis what I answered.

If you think a difference in materials and tighter tolerences is about bling we really have nothing to discuss as you have no frame of reference.

Off of thre ttop of my head:

Choosing say a 7000 series alloy over a 6000 series alloy for a particular part can affect durability, for instance. Or, if a 6000 series is used in a hub shell I have seen bearing pop loose in the shell if the hub is radially laced because it stretched the bearing bore beyond tolerence. Why use 6000 series then? Because it is cheaper.

Hard annodizing also changes the properties of the material. But guess what. it adds cost.

Using Ti vs alloy adds cost as well but perhaps there is a real, functional reason to do so for a particular part.

Lets talk about how hub shells are machined. Most CnC machines hold the shell from one end and machine the internal structurs of the other. Once done the hub shell is removed from the machine and flipped around. The other side is then machined. This can lead to a very slight misalignment of the bearings which means the bearings won't turn as easliy and their life will be shortened.

OR, it could mean that additional loads are transfered to the axle causing premature failure.

How about how bearing bores are cut? There are a few things that can be done to give a better seat for the bearings but it involves two extra machining steps (adds cost).

Are any of these Bling?
