Considering new wheels (carbon vs Al)
So I've been kicking around the idea of new wheels.
The main things I'm considering:
Boyd Altamonts
Cheap Carbon Clinchers (38-50mm deep, high Tg >200C)
Something from Psimet
I'm currently on Fulcrum Racing 5's. There decent wheels, but I'm debating getting something a little lighter. I'm also considering trying tubeless and/or wider tires, in addition to getting something 11-speed compatible.
The majority of my riding is hills with fairly steep descents. Weight wise the carbon seem to be a little lighter. A few years ago I was scared about cheap carbon and hills. I'm thinking that's much less of an issue, since the high Tg resins have trickled down to most manufacturers and brake compounds have improved.
So the real questions:
Is there a difference in ride quality between carbon vs aluminum wheels? Any other thoughts? How good would a tubeless conversion be on any of these? The carbon wheels are probably the best looking, because carbon.
