I was lucky enough to retire at 50. It lasted 6 months before I got bored - and went back to self-employed work for another 14 years.
I retired for the second time two years ago and now wild horses couldn't drag me back to work. Financial and health considerations aside, it all depends on how much satisfaction you get out of your work. Good luck in whatever you decide.
