I've used clipless for several years, but have gone back to large platform pedals. If you wife is not very experienced or as you indicated , has a problem un clipping, it may be worth it to consider avoiding clip less and stay with platform pedals. I have found that I and most cyclists do not use clip less to full advantage anyway.
