I've been hosting on Warmshowers for about three years and have done everything in the OP for free at one time or another. What you really want to know is would I either use such a service or provide accommodation etc. for a charge and the answer to both questions is no.

The real test of any service like this is if enough people use it and the only real way to find out is try and either fail or succeed.
