Those are precisely the sort of accommodations which will not be cheap. A spare room in someone's apartment in a city is what I've booked before. A shared apartment on airbnb is typically quite a bit cheaper than a hotel room in the same city. If you want an apartment or a cottage all to yourself, then you'll have to pay a lot more.
