One last try.
I am choosing to
absorb the extra damage he will do to me by using a vehicle that leaves me more vulnerable in several ways. I could take the bus almost insuring that a drunk driver will do little damage to me. Or I can ride my bike which almost insures that IF i take a hit it will certainly be serious.
I am assuming that no one is forcing you or I to cycle with motor vehicles. It is our free will to use the transport of our choice, and the result of our decision may be to suffer greater consequences in an accident. Those greater consequences are the direct result of our choice i.e., our own fault. I have many friends who choose to NOT ride a bicycle in traffic because they don't want to risk serious injury. Therefore their safety is a direct result of their actions and their lack of getting creamed on a bicycle is "their fault".
