Presta valves - removable core

Just recently, Wiggle sent me a batch inner tubes with 80mm Presta valves. The first of these developed what I thought was a slow leak which I lived with for a while. When I decided it had become a fast leak, and went to change the tube, the inner core of the valve came out and the tyre deflated rapidly. Up until this point, I didn't know that valves could come with removable inner cores. (There's nothing on the box to indicate that this is the case.) But it's definitely removable - it has a flat section that enables you to grip it and screw it back in.
What is everyone's experience with removable cores? Should I screw it back in and use it again? Or am I setting myself up for weeks of trouble - or even worse, an explosively deflating tyre while on a ride? And why is there such a product anyway? I'm going to be asking Wiggle to ensure the next batch is non removable.
Thanks in advance, Ross.
