2014 trek superfly 9.8

I am used to riding my old bike w/32t single chain ring w/11-32 cassette.

New bike has 38/24 up front w/11-36.

I do not like /not used to drops in gearing riding in 38f. I would like to go to 32 or 34 for big ring

Front derailleur is a fd-m786. Shimano specs says "top gear teeth 44-38T W/max capacity 14t."

Anyone w/any experience trying anything simular? Would i be able to "get away with" 32 or 34 running as "big ring" using present derailleur?

Is there another front derailleur that would be a better option? I would like to keep granny as option.
