it's often a good idea to imagine when riding down a narrow road, what would happen if the same number and arrangement of cyclists and motor vehicles came around the corner up ahead going the other way. who would do what to avoid an accident, assuming it is theoretically even avoidable. it's just that it so rarely occurs that we get away with the dangerous habits we have formed. but eventually there will be a "perfect storm" and all we get caught out.
