Well. Ok. I get the fields of weeds thing now though. Never had to consider it myself as I never rode my road bike through fields, but I can visualize it.
I suppose I have both skewers on the left side of the bike because , well, that's how I learned it, and it does give the bike a certain symmetry in look. And it helps for it to be there if one is right handed, IMO. Which may be your rationale behind the quicker wheel changes in races, thing. But I never had to consider that one myself either.
My philosophy is…whatever blows your skirt up. Like so many questions, it is personal preference.
Except , of course, the orientation of the rear skewer.
