The cyclist in the other thread paid with her life for her part of carelessness. I would be just fine if the only people paying for motorist carelessness was the driver.

You should reread the other thread as I made note of the cyclist mistake(s) that helped kill her. But for the life of me, I do not understand why you want to ignore the bad MUP design that if corrected, may have helped save her life.

At any rate, the MUP design has too many things going on at a single point, double 90 degree turns, road crossing, train station, potential stopped cars/trucks blocking the line of sight, no train signal lights at the MUP. A better MUP design may have saved the ladies life.

You all harp on what the cyclist must do, and I agree lights help, but at least two and maybe 3 of the cyclist in this thread had the legally required reflectors. If you find that unsafe, then raise the money for school programs teaching them to use lights even though the law implies reflectors are sufficient.
