I've been promising myself that once I had two decently-sized paychecks, I would go in and get the batteries changed in my watches. Today was that day. All the bands are various amounts of too big including the ladies' Timex I got from a thrift store. (The Armitron M807 that I bought today fits but that's because it has a strap that buckles and holes that go all the way around.) We're allowed to use our phones to tell time but we have to have them on "silent" and "vibrate" and it sucks to check the time, see there's a message and then not be able to look at/answer it. Ta da! Enter the watch. As soon as the jeweler handed me back the Timex, I slipped it on. And it just felt...right to be wearing a watch there. Plus I'd forgotten how convenient it is to merely look at your wrist if you want to know what time it is. Of course, the new one also has an hourly chime and a reverse LED display and military time and a timer and is water resistant to 100 meters. (If I'm 100 meters underwater then I've got bigger things to figure out than what time it is. Like what the hell happened to put me in that situation.) Watches, man. Cool cool cool.
