With curved blades, I usually "Wrap" around the stay. Now about which side you get on. I get on the side that makes sense for the given situation. Typically, I avoid the right side because of the chain oiling my pants or whatever, calf. The left side is cleaner. When I had a motorcycle, I typically got on from the right to avoid traffic and I would grab the front brake at the same time.
Now it really gets confusing with the tandem. The best way is not to swing your leg over the back and klck your stoker but to swing over the front. She likes her bars higher so it is actually easier to swing over the front, either left or right.
Should another fun discussion of mounting be on another thread?
I really don't care where you guys point your skewer levers, just don't put them on the drive side and don't point them down. Anywhere parallel to the fork blade in the front and the chain or preferably the seat stay in the back is fine with me. I can see the logic in pointing to the rear and parallel to the ground, just don't like it!
OK, how about wing nut position?! how do you like your wing nuts oriented, parallel to the ground?
