Installation compound on steel frame

The seat post on my Bianchi Pista (steel frame) keeps slipping. I've tried all the usual solutions like degreasing but it's still slipping. I certainly don't want to break the clamp as it's part of the frame. The LBS guy gave me a packet of FSA "Installation Compound." It's a friction compound but the packet says "For carbon & aluminum components." Would this be safe to use on a steel frame too meaning it wouldn't damage the frame?
