Thats a good trainer workout. But...it does not simulate climbing. More like sprint drills.
The nearest thing I've done to climbing a long alpine col without actually riding one is sticking the bike in a huge gear on a flat course and riding standing up for an hour or so. You should be able to maintain over 20 mph for a long stretch. The wind resistance feels a lot like an alpine incline.
If anyone is curious as to how it feels to ride a very big climb - I would recomend this technique.
