I am in a very similar situation. I also ride a 51 cm frame. I needed a shorter (80 mm) stem as I've got a pretty stiff body that won't stretch out as much as I would like. I've been doing some stretch at home lately. Hopefully this will help me get back to the stock 90 mm stem.
