Was the locking on the new cassette torque down tight? Loose cogs can damage the freebie splinters.
You may need to adjust the rear shift cable. But a loose locking can also cause the cassette cogs to be slightly out of alignment with the derailleur.
Checked and confirmed to be tight - I thought it might be cable tightness but its fine on the larger cogs
