You've got yourself a really decent all-round touring bike there. As I see it the only reason
you might want to go to 700s is to get a wider selection of cross tires should you decide
to go off road. I can't think of a good reason to swap out the freewheel or chainrings; the
6 spd gives all the range you need. It's possible that the spring in the rear derailleur could
be getting a bit limp & the rowels could be worn. If so, you might want to upgrade there.
Personally, I don't much care for down tube shifters, but that's a matter of taste. It's not
hard to convert to stem shifters.
