Yes you can use 175 in the place of the 170 . It give you a little longer reach if that what you need . It have nothing to do with the chain . What does change the length of the chain is the size of the chainrings . If they are bigger then you add to the chain , if they are smaller then you make the chain shorter . If they the same size then you do nothing .
