You turn them inside out, take a razor blade or hobby knife and slice off the tabs that don't line up.
They fit a lot better. If you are really a stickler, you can trim the sides to match the lever body, but it may not be any better that way.
I took a set once and put velcro around the body and the hoods stayed in place.... for a while, than they were worse than if I hadn't.
