The item to be chromed is placed inside a dome shaped glass vacumm chamber. The item is suspended near the top of the chamber. When all the air is pulled out of the chamber, a sample of the plating metal (chrome in this case) is flash melted and evaporated using lots and lots of heat. The vaporized metal disperses all through out the chamber and because of it is small molten particles, will stick to just about everything. Flip the fork over and repeat.
