I always say, just get a mtb if you're gonna have a suspended fork, anyways. A 29er ht mtb with lockout will more than satisfy your needs. Unless you're touring for long distances, a ht mtb with lockout should be just fine. Otherwise, it's a rigid forked hybrid for commuting, or a rigid forked road bike for touring and club rides, for me. Mountain bikes are great for ripped up city streets and narly country mountain sides! DS hybrid bikes can't do anything more than a wide-tired-rigid-forked hybrid can do. They just carry more weight!
