Pretty common thing on hobby forums. I've seen it dozens of times on music gear forums. My favorite was a guy who was trying to sell stuff with a sob story about needing a plane ticket to get to his grandma's funeral and started a thread maybe 10 days after about buying a new $1500 amplifier.
