Do not use hairspray or other solvent to install Ergon grips. Per the instructions, the handlebar should be clean and dry prior to installation. Grips come in many lengths. As others have mentioned, you will have to move your shifters and brake lever inwards in order to accept the length of the Ergon grip and barend. Also, note in the instructions and the measuring device that you have enough free handlebar space to accept the grip and barend. If you do not install over the needed free handebar space the grips will slip and you will likely break/strip the bolt on the barend when it come time to clamp with a torque wrench.

GP2 instructions are here if you need to reference: http://www.ergon-bike.com/us/en/file..._120703_A4.pdf

Also note, it was brought to our attention a few years ago that some of the newer Trek FX bikes come with Trek's own handlebar and grip combo. Only Trek brand (Bontrager) grips will work on this handlebar. Double check that you don't have one of these bar/grip combos.
