Sounds like the LBS are either a bunch of roadie snobs, or just trying to fleece you as your perfectly decent bike needed a basic tuneup, maybe a chain, and he has you talking about replacing the entire drivetrain.
They seemed to work ok in the limited time I road them. I was/am open to upgrades for a couple reasons. One, I know that 2007 tech is old now. Second, I have read tons of threads on here about people bashing the triples. So, I thought kill 2 birds with one stone, right? The chain gauge did show worn I think, as it slipped all the way down. I used it on some new bikes in the store and it went about halfway, so that seemed believable.
